Vessel History

This vessel has quite a story !

Packed full of innovative features, the Prout 45 has wing keels, diagonal torsion control bulkheads and a unique structural system, technology used to make cruising easier and safer. She is easily handled by a shorthanded crew, with all controls led to the cockpit where excellent all-round visibility makes handling in close quarters quite easy. The aft-stepped mast, unique in a craft of this size, ensures simple and safe sail-handling with the minimum of effort.  Over 4,500 Prouts have been built, sailing over 10 million miles without a hull failure.

This 45 foot catamaran was built in 1995 by Prout Catamarans in the UK.  She was originally christened "Scorpio". In 2001, her name was changed to "Cosmos" just prior to the start of her circumnavigation. Later in 2004 she was renamed "Solitude"  by her present owners.

Scorpio's original owner, Stephan Kingsman, competed in a transatlantic race from England to St. Lucia.  Scorpio placed first in its class!

In 2001, her second owner, Joe Dorr changed her name to "Cosmos". Captain Joe Dorr and "Cosmos" departed Annapolis, Maryland on January 1, 2001 to begin her circumnavigation. The circumnavigation took two and one half years. It ended back in Annapolis on May 10, 2003.

Her present owners purchased the boat in 2004 and renamed her "Solitude". The boat weathered 2005 Hurricane Wilma and was repowered due to minor water ingress. In 2018 and 2019 she was struck by lightning and her electronics and mast and rigging were professionally replaced. Receipts are available for inspection. She has since cruised the Chesapeake and the Florida Keys and this year completed a trip to/from Maine to Stuart FL.

She is in excellent condition and ready for her next Circumnavigation!
