Carol in memory of Larry Loftis

Loftis

“My husband read about sailboats, especially Island Packets for twenty years. His life’s dream at retirement was to buy a boat for cruising on the Florida coast to the Keys, to the Bahamas and beyond. He decided that the Island Packet 380 was the perfect boat for him, his wife Carol, children and great friends. He bought the Island Packet 380 and sailed it to Bradenton, Florida. Upon retirement, December, 2007, plans were made and we began living on the boat from February until July 2008. We sailed in the Gulf and had never been happier. The plan was to return November, 2009 to sail to the Keys. On October 20, 2008, Larry was diagnosed with the most lethal form of cancer, Pancreatic Cancer. He was able to return to the boat only to see it in dry dock. After a fierce fight, he died December 2, 2009.

The painful experience of selling Larry’s boat began in February, 2010. The choice was easy to find an experienced broker of our beloved Island Packet . Larry had previously known about Whiteaker Yacht Sales and knew if we couldn’t continue the boat had to be sold by the perfect people. In a few weeks, there was an offer and another followed. Ed and Debbie knew the agony of selling our boat but made it as painless as possible. They gave me excellent advice, did not rush my decisions, and the boat sold in May only a few months after being placed on the market. Thanks to Ed and Debbie Whiteaker’s patience and personal support this painful process was finalized. I would recommend Whiteaker Yacht Sales to my family, friends and sailors who love the sea. In fact our son who is considering buying a boat in the future will get help from Ed and Debbie. ”
