Salesperson's Comments

Custom built and NEVER chartered

"Roam" has been there and done that with both of her very caring owners. She was originally outfitted to provide her owner with trouble free cruising. Mission accomplished! Nicely upgraded for her second cruise (two years) and again..... mission accomplished! You will NOT find a nicer Leopard anywhere!

Owner's Reflections
Roam is far beyond what Robertson & Caine calls a "new" boat, which is right off the production line, and will need a considerable amount of professional finish work.

This is a proven blue water cruiser that instills confidence and appreciation for her engineering, strength and design.

There is very little cruising time on this vessel, with only five seasonal voyages, and occasional coastal cruises in Georgia.

She has been professionally maintained since commissioning in 2001, and for the years we've been aboard, we have continuously upgraded and refined her systems.

This vessel meets the expectations of what people might imagine a "new" boat to consist of and represent!

It took three steady months of diligent work and $30,000.00 to commission her for voyaging, after Robertson & Caine had installed the $40,000.00 worth of additional equipment, and $10,000.00 of additional work to the original owners specifications.

The $80,000.00 invested, was for top-notch equipment and professional installation. We love this vessel very much, and the quality throughout speaks for itself.

Every item has been smoothed out, tried and true, and properly run-in. She is a vessel you'll love, not something you'll have to learn to live with.
Buying this boat will give you sailing adventures from the start instead of: post purchase projects, added costs and down-time in marinas and boat yards, locating dependable labor, and researching the products and equipment, etc.

Almost all the boats over 38' need taller masts to compliment their longer waterlines, but that eliminates their ability to travel the I.C.W.! You will always want the advantage and option of that capability. New models in the 40' to 42' range are basically 38 footers with 2 to 3 feet added to the stern for an additional $50,000.00. Also, their wider beams of 24' will: restrict hauling yard options, incur higher costs in yard and slip fees, restrict maneuverability in narrow channels, etc., limit slip availablility and room in crowded anchorages.

The anchoring system is set up for perfection every time with easy access and safety, no messy chain on deck, a convenient saltwater wash-down system, simple bridle hook-up, and it is totally out of sight.

A quiet, humming, 6KW generator with very low hours provides plenty of power for the air-conditioning or reverse cycle heating, water heater, battery charger and watermaker.

The water tanks (210 gal) have always had filtered water going in and are in pristine condition. In the galley we installed the best "Seagull" filter with a counter top spigot, to provide spring-fresh drinking water.

The main salon entry is three feet wide with two sturdy hinged doors and strong stainless hardware.

She is so easy to sail solo. It's not if (but when you need to) that you will really appreciate this option. The size is perfect for the cruising couple, and it handles so easily the ladies love to sail her.

Flying the asymmetrical spinnaker is a pleasure and very versatile. With all the room forward to move around, it is easy to rig, set and retrieve with the sock by one person. You can run downwind with it tacked to the upwind hull or tack it to the midship point for a reach. After it's set you can engage the autopilot, then go relax in the shade on the trampoline. We sailed at a consistent 11.8 knots crossing the stream from West End to St. Augustine, with speed corrected for the current. The spinnaker and gear is is Bristol condition!

The gantry system is a great innovation compared to davits. It takes three minutes to raise and secure the tender with her motor on. You'll never have to consider towing the dinghy again!

Having the dual helm seat with exceptional visibility provides a place to really share the adventures, and have great conversations. Upgrades in this area include: a sturdy solid teak footrest, teak handhold assist, leather wheel cover, Weems and Plath Merkur bulkhead mount compass, and reversible backrest.

Extensive custom features added to the interior include: teak ventilation louvers on all cabinet and compartment doors, built-in level storage under the sink counter area for bulky items and provisions, designated shelving and cabinets in galley (utilizing air spaces) for dishes, spices, utensils, pans, lids, bowls, blender, etc., large pantry with removable shelving, teak tambour cabinet for galley items, high intensity reading light in main salon, extra 110V and 12V outlets throughout. Chrome lifting rings on all floorboards, custom draperies and upholstery, fitted cockpit cushions, etc.
The outstanding bimini top gives full cockpit coverage and all weather protection (with superior strength from its attachment to the Targa arch, and oversized hardware for tensioning on the cabin top). The Spectra glass custom made windshield, and the full cockpit enclosure, is sturdy and easily used while sailing, which creates an additional living space.

Her two generous dining tables provide plenty of elbowroom for the crew, with either one seating up to seven people. The main salon table lowers down to make a large comfortable doulbe bed, giving you the option of sleeping eight aboard.

The stern shower with hot and cold water was a special order and installation, providing comfort and convenience. It is the best unit we could find. The designated interior shower measures 3 ft. wide, 5 ft. in length and 7 ft. 2 in. in height with wash basin, seat, medicine cabinet, linen locker, Grohe fixtures, overhead ventilation, eye level portlight, plus a special order "no hands" sump switch.

The Leopard 3800 has the best ventilation and natural interior light you'll find. Her forward facing portlights in the main salon and galley give full flow air throughout the cabin, and are protected from the sun by the versatile access steps.

Twin 42hp Westerbeke 44A4 diesels give her smooth, clean power (thanks to their limited smoking mechanisms and fuel efficient technology). With the straight shaft design, and Michigan 3 blade bronze "Sailor" props, she will cruise at 6.5 knots, and turn 7.8 knots at 3600 RPMs.

A solid, in-hull mount was built into the port hull for vertical stowage of an outboard motor up to 15 hp. This is a useful option when making passages, or for in port security.

This vessel was created for the discerning yachtsman.
